A busy day at the Ponderosa...

Children cannot learn or be happy in a chaotic and disorderly environment, nor when allowed to become bored. This is why each child’s day is carefully planned, using the most up-to-date, expertly designed, educational curriculum available.

Each classroom consists of children in the same age level and our preschool program is specially designed for each individual age group. Today's children need to be taught a firm foundation which enables them to develop socially, intellectually, emotionally, and physically. Using the most up-to-date curriculum the A-Beka curriculum provides a Christian orientated curriculum that keeps learning lively, interesting, and memorable. The A-Beka textbooks are age appropriate learning materials that sharpen their listening skills, follow directions, and practice eye-hand coordination as they learn letters and sounds and number concepts with emphasis focusing on art, music, and stories. The A-Beka curriculum is utilized in laying a sound foundation for future learning with the finest teachings available.

Our preschool program is designed to:

  • Stimulate creativity and foster a positive self image in each child
  • Encourage social skills through group games, sharing and friendship.
  • To maximize learning by developing and improving listening skills, working on increased attention span and focusing on each child’s ability to understand and communicate.
  • Provide for the social, intellectual, emotional and physical development of each child.
  • Promote and encourage interest in Science, Math, Health, Safety, Nutrition and Language Development.
  • Developing moral values, acceptable standards of behavior, respect for one another and a sense of right and wrong based upon Biblical guidelines in Christian principles.
  • Development of motor skills (large/small)

In addition, Music, Art, Dance and Drama are part of the learning experience at the center!

Our Staff of child care professionals:

Each teacher must meet the rigid requirements set by the Texas Department of Human Services and complete at least fifteen hours of child development training each year. Our Teachers are trained in C.P.R. and first aid. Each teacher is carefully selected according to their love for children, their ability to handle a class properly, neatness and their past experience and training in the child care profession. Child care is a very demanding profession and one must love working with children to remain. We are very proud of each staff member and boast a very low teacher turnover. Many have been here 7 to 9 years!

Before and after school care:

Transportation is provided to and from area schools for school age children. We serve the following schools in Mesquite: Moss Elementary, Porter, Beasley, Kimbell, Austin, Cannaday, Tisinger, Sunnyvale, Shaw and Florence Black.

Nutritional meals:

Since good nutrition is imperative for your child’s physical development, children are served hot, well balanced meals at noontime each day plus a morning and afternoon snack to keep them going. Breakfast is not included, but milk and cereal is offered at a small extra charge. Children are permitted to bring food to the center if contained in a proper container.
